Clove, often referred to as clove bud, is an evergreen tree which produces a flower bud that possesses a variety of beneficial properties. While clove was used extensively in ancient Indian and Chinese civilizations, its use then spread to other parts of the world, including Europe, during the seventh and eighth centuries. In traditional Ayurveda, clove oil has been used for oral health, digestive health and respiratory health support. In traditional Chinese herbalism, clove is noted for its healthy fungal-balancing and microbial-balancing attributes. Clove oil is often used in toothpastes, mouthwashes and other oral care products. It has natural properties which make it helpful for supporting certain areas of health. The main bioactive element in clove is called eugenol, and clove can help to support a healthy microbial balance and to help support oral health and keep the mouth feeling refreshed. Likewise, clove oil is often used as a natural insect repellent.
